Bacterial spot
Xanthomonas fragariae is a phytopathogenic bacterium responsible for angular leaf spot in strawberry plants (Fragaria × ananassa). This disease primarily affects young leaves, causing water-soaked, translucent lesions that eventually turn necrotic and are distinctly limited by the leaf veins, creating a characteristic angular pattern. Under high humidity conditions, these spots may exude shiny bacterial droplets on the leaf surface.
Angular leaf spot weakens the foliage, reduces photosynthetic capacity, and lowers both the quality and yield of the crop, especially in humid environments with moderate temperatures that favor the bacterium’s spread.
Preventive management with suitable biosolutions helps reduce incidence and maintain crop health.
